TCV School, Chauntra successfully organized a one-and-a-half-day workshop for Tibetan,
English, and Hindi language teachers on 3rd and 4th July 2026. Titled “The Power of
Storybooks in Teaching Language,” the workshop was facilitated by the former TCV English
Resource Person, Mrs. Jashoe Tenzin Pelmo la. Although the school had requested the
workshop at the beginning of the 2026 academic session, it was conducted on these dates
owing to Mrs. Pelmo la’s busy schedule.
The workshop brought together eleven language teachers, who benefited from an engaging and
practical learning experience focused on using storybooks as powerful tools for language
teaching. Participants explored a range of learner-centred teaching strategies, including:
Story Listening
Story Reading
Story Enacting
Story Boarding
Story Mapping
Story Retelling
Story Rewriting
Story Creating
Talk for Writing
Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS)
Total Physical Response (TPR)
These approaches demonstrated how storybooks can effectively develop learners’ listening,
speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, comprehension, creativity, and confidence through
meaningful and interactive learning experiences.
Drawing on her extensive experience, Mrs. Pelmo la shared practical classroom techniques and
valuable insights that inspired teachers to make language learning more engaging and
enjoyable. The workshop equipped participants with innovative strategies that they will
implement in their classrooms, creating a positive impact on students across the Tibetan,
English, and Hindi language departments.
TCV School, Chauntra extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Jashoe Tenzin Pelmo la for her
invaluable contribution and to all the participating teachers for their enthusiastic involvement.
The workshop reflects the school’s continued commitment to strengthening teaching practices
and promoting quality language education through continuous professional development.
