Celebration of the 66th Tibetan Democracy Day at TCV School Chauntra
Today, 2nd September, marks the 66th Tibetan Democracy Day, a significant occasion to recall and honour the establishment of Tibetan democracy in exile—a remarkable gift and visionary contribution of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to the Tibetan community in exile.
TCV School Chauntra also celebrated this important day with great enthusiasm and solemnity. Students and staff gathered in the school auditorium to attend the morning programme.
The gathering was addressed by the School Principal, who, in his address, explained the key elements and principles of democracy in general. He further took the opportunity to enlighten the gathering about the evolution and timeline of Tibetan democracy, highlighting its significant milestones and developments over the years. His presentation was supported by a well-prepared PowerPoint presentation, which helped the students and staff gain a better understanding of the history and democratic journey of the Tibetan community in exile.
Later, five students who emerged as the Tibetan toppers in the 2025 Annual Examination were felicitated with awards from the Department of Education (DoE), CTA. The recognition highlighted the importance of preserving, learning, and promoting the Tibetan language among the younger generation and served as an encouragement for students to continue their efforts in upholding their rich linguistic and cultural heritage.
Further, to add joy and colour to the celebration of this significant day, a special cultural programme was presented under the guidance of the school’s Traditional Dance and Music Teacher. Students from Classes III to VIII presented a musical display, showcasing their enthusiasm and talent. The school’s Dance and Music Team also took the opportunity to present a traditional group dance and a duet song, adding vibrancy and cultural richness to the celebration.
The programme concluded on a joyful and meaningful note, bringing together the values of democracy, education, language, culture, and the preservation of Tibetan identity. The celebration was not only a tribute to the democratic journey of the Tibetan community.
