1. 3rd April Brainstorming:

The Building Blocks of Language

To facilitate English language acquisition, we discussed about the importance of fundamental grammar concepts, such as parts of speech, sentence structure.

 

2. 10th April  

Verb Forms

Following extensive discussions during our previous sessions, we collectively decided to prioritize verb forms as a key focus area.
3. 17th April  

Determining the optimal Number of Regular and Irregular Verbs

We carefully considered the appropriate number of regular and irregular verbs to introduce at each language level.

 

4 2nd  May Verb Identification and Strategic Sequencing We identified 167 verbs appropriate for classes VI-X. To enhance learning, we developed a strategic sequence for introducing these verbs and a structured curriculum for April-end of July.
5. 9th May Curating Engaging Topics for Our Creative Writing Competition On this day, we engaged in a productive discussion to determine suitable topics for our upcoming creative writing competition. We carefully considered the interests and abilities of students at various levels, aiming to inspire creativity and challenge their writing skills.

30th May Finalizing creative writing topics and word limits To cater to the diverse interests and abilities of students from classes 5-10, we decided to offer three distinct topic options for each grade level.
7. 16th June Exploring Book Reading for TPD Our team explored the possibility of incorporating book reading into our Teacher Professional Development (TPD) activities. And we decided to postpone further discussion until our next Teacher Professional Development session.
8. 22nd June Initiating a collaborative reading experience. Following a thorough analysis, our team collectively chose to engage in a collaborative reading experience.

Collaborative Reading Journey: “Teaching Outside the Box” After a meticulous review, our team ultimately decided to embark on a collaborative reading of “Teaching Outside the Box” by LouAnne Johnson

8th July Selecting “Teaching Outside the Box” for Collaborative Reading Each teacher carefully went through the book so to decide on the chapter of their choice.
11. 2nd Aug Individual Chapter selection On this day, the department head distributed the print out of the chapter each teacher chose from the book decided to do collaborative reading on.
12. 9th August Applying Book Insights to Personal Experiences Each teacher engaged in individual reading, reflecting on their personal experiences and connecting them to the insights gained from the book.
13. 20th Aug Planning and Discussing Our English Day Program On this TPD day, we focused on planning and discussing our upcoming English Day program and related activities.
14. 4th September Sharing Insights from Collaborative Reading 1. During our TPD session, Mrs. Passang Dolma and Mrs. Passang Tsamchoe shared their reflections  on the essential qualities of a teacher, the importance of cultivating a growth mindset, and the significance of self-reflection and evaluation in professional development.

Mrs. Lhakpa Dolma contributed valuable insights by discussing the concept of “starting with a smile” and emphasizing the importance of responding to students with gestures rather than reacting in certain situations.

15.  10th September Chapter Sharing 2 Motivational Strategies Mrs Tenzin Dolkar shared on strategies focused on fostering a positive and supportive learning environment by helping students believe in their own potential for success. She emphasized the importance of recognizing and celebrating students’ achievements, known as “catching kids being good,” and tracking student progress to provide them with tangible evidence of their growth and development.
